Professor Mancini
Rome
born Roberto Mancini is fluent not only in his native Italian, but
also in English, French, Spanish, and German. Following completion
of a degree in languages and modern foreign literature at Roma Tre
University in 1998, he has taught Italian as a second language at
a variety of the private Italian language study programs in Rome,
including Leonardo di Vinci, Torre di Babele and the Itclub. He has
also offered instruction in both English and French using the Easy
Life method.. He is now the director of a private liceo (high school/technical
school) in Rome. Professor Mancini also worked for the Ministry
of Defense in Rome for many years.
Ms. Johnston studied with Professor Mancini in October/November 2007
and found him both competent and highly intuitive. Professor Mancini
is available for tutoring on a year-round basis, excluding holidays
and the annual vacation period in August.
Professor Mancini's hourly fee of 20 Euros per session compares favorably
with the cost of private instruction at the schools listed above,
which charge an average of 45 Euros per hour, and which also require
a guaranteed minimum of 10 hours prepaid. He is willing to provide
a discount for five sessions or more.
Our Director: Elizabeth Johnston
Born
in Portland, Oregon, she attended Portland State University (PSU)
where she majored in foreign language study (Russian and French),
graduating in 1969. In 1965 she attended the University of Jerusalem
for one year, studying Hebrew among other subjects, and also spent
time on a kibbutz. She has subsequently taught Biblical Hebrew through
Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon. In 1967 she attended
the University of Zagreb on a special Central European Studies program
through PSU, which included studying Croatian. In 1970/71 she lived
in Sweden for a year. These travel and study experiences whetted her
appetite for studying languages in the country of origin. She is now
studying Chinese and plans to work with Global Volunteers, teaching
English in Kunming, China.
Following retirement from 30 years of State of Oregon service (Workers·
Compensation) in 2000, she has traveled to Europe several times for
two to three months at a time, much of the time in Italy. She has
traveled with Elderhostel, several private tour groups, as well as
on her own, staying in local hotels. She has found the most economical
and interesting way to visit Europe is to study a European language,
in this case Italian, at a local language institute and find housing
through the respective schools. This interest has inspired her to
establish her own business service, Johnston's Travel to Study LLC,
to encourage people to study Italian in Italy.
